As the schools have remained closed since the lockdown, parents are demanding the private school fee waive off. Petitions were filled in different High courts about this.

- April 2020- the Delhi High Court had dismissed a petition to prohibit schools from charging even the tuition fee during the lockdown period.
- In May 2020, Uttarakhand High Court passed an interim order barring private schools asking parents to submit tuition fees for online classes.
- On June 2020, The Uttarakhand government issued an order saying that private schools can only charge tuition fees if they are conducting online classes during the lockdown.

- 14th May 2020-The Rajasthan High Court also dismissed a similar PIL.
- On 19th June, The Gujarat High Court held that private schools cannot cancel the admission of students who are unable to deposit fees by 30 June.
- 24th June 2020 – The Allahabad High Court had, on 24 June, also rejected a PIL seeking completely waive off fees, including tuition fees.
- 26th June 2020- The Bombay High Court stayed the government resolution passed in May 2020 that barred schools from charging hiked fees
- 30th June 2020 -The Kerala High Court dismissed a PIL against the collection of school fees during the lockdown.
- 30th June – The Punjab and Haryana High Court on 30 June said that all schools, whether they offering online classes during the lockdown or not, are allowed to collect tuition fees.
- Madhya Pradesh High Court stayed the government order preventing private schools from demanding fees other than the tuition fees.
- The Calcutta High Court and the Madras High Court expressed anticipation for a more collaborative effort to deal with the issue.

Parents’ associations from 8 states have now come to the Supreme Court seeking a uniform policy for school fee payment across India during this pandemic.
