Alleged fraudulent emails permitting Apeejay Schools to hike the fee came from the education department: police submitted a report to HC

Delhi Police has submitted a report in Delhi High Court stating that the emails sent to 2 Apeejay Schools giving permission to hike their fees did, in fact, originate from the Directorate of Education.

Delhi Police has submitted a report in Delhi High Court stating that the emails sent to 2 Apeejay Schools giving permission to hike their fees did, in fact, originate from the Directorate of Education.

This report by police was in direct contrast with the Directorate of Education’s claim that the emails were fraudulent and fake. On this basis, the department also lodged a police complaint. Delhi high court had ordered Delhi police Cyber Cell to look into the matter and submit a report.

On the basis of the data received from Google LLC, the used email id — [email protected] — from which said emails originated was registered with it in the name of Deputy Director of Education Act-1. The originating IP addresses of the emails were also from the official internet connection of the Directorate of Education.

It was found that the one IP address, which did not come from the DoE internet connection, was the private mobile connection of contractual staff of the directorate. This mobile number was used on a regular basis operating the said email account in the normal course of office work. Location of the mobile number was also found in the vicinity of the cell tower which is covering DoE office.

The court directed the police to ascertain the genuineness of these emails allowing the two schools to charge a hiked fee on 12th December 2019, 16th December 2019 and 25th February 2019.

On 18th May, the court had also asked the two branches of Apeejay schools to collect from student’s tuition fees as per rates prevailing last year.

The May 18 HC order came on the schools’ plea challenging the recommendation of Directorate of Education to lodge an FIR against the management and seal the premises.
