Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics which is concerned with specific functions of angles and their application to calculations. There are 6 functions of an angle commonly used in this branch. These are also called six trig ratios.

  1. sine (sin)
  2. cosine (cos)
  3. tangent (tan)
  4. cotangent (cot)
  5. secant (sec)
  6. Cosecant (cosec).

This is about triangles, relation between their sides, opposite angles etc.

The first trigonometric table was compiled by Hipparchus of Nicaea (180 – 125 BC), He is known as ‘the father of trigonometry’.

The noted Greek astronomers Menelaus and Ptolomy also contributed in advancing the field.

The fundamental trig functions like sine and cosine are used to describe the sound and light waves. Trigonometry is used in oceanography in calculating heights of waves and tides. It also used in the creation of maps, and satellite systems. The sine and cosine functions are fundamental to the theory of periodic functions. Calculus is made up of Trigonometry and Algebra.Calculus is used in physics, engineering, economics, statistics, and medicine.

Calculus is the branch of mathematics that deals with the properties of derivatives and integrals of functions. The two main types are differential calculus and integral calculus. In simple words Calculus is the mathematical study of change.Differential calculus lets one calculate the rate of change.
