DELHI PARENTS ASSOCIATION organised GENDER SENSITISATION workshop for parents of BACHCHA PARTY PRESCHOOL GURGAON with the help of SAHAS NGO. This is the first school in India where this type of workshop was held.

It was a very new space for us as well as for the parents to share their fears, anxieties, challenges, ways of coping in the context of growing dependence of technology, working parents and the growing bridge between parents and children.

Numerous conversations that happened ; 1-2 sharing’s from parents have still stayed with us

Facilitator – Can you share some challenges that working parents experience these days?

Mother- It is very challenging! I was a business woman but, 4 years back ; I left work to take care of my children.

Facilitator – Was very tempted to say to her that, “Did your husband for once thought to leave work to take care of your children?” But, I resisted this question thinking that maybe that’s how parents are coping with challenges of child rearing in these times where again its the mother who has to give up careers to bring up their children!

Facilitator – Since, we are a group where we have fathers and mothers in almost equal number ; can the fathers share any fears/anxiety/challenge they experience bringing up their daughters ?

Father- I feel very scared for my daughter. Earlier, I used to hear but, now, I can feel how challenging it is to bring up daughter! we fear that anyone can touch her; considering the cases of sexual abuse!

This first and important step to resolve the bigger issue of child sexual abuse is today’s burning requirement. We are working around co-creating safe sharing spaces for parents to come together with their peer parents and also, engage in their capacity building to have the language to provide sexuality education to their children.

Almost every day we hear news of sexual assault of small kids in school premises.
Few days back small child of age 4 was also involved in assaulting his classmate
We really need to understand the requirement of GENDER SENSITISATION where counselling Kids, Parents Teachers and school staff is must means the complete TRIANGLE should be sensitise by expert counselors.

Let’s start working on sensitising the society….Let’s join hands ….No more sexual assault….Let’s take the responsibility.

Special thanks to Team BACHCHA PARTY PLAYSCHOOL and Ms Mona Yadav our facilitator.
